Happy Wednesday! 👋

The Grill is back! 🔥

**FCG-201: John Ternus, Don’t forget to Change the World** is out now on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSCo-CKH82U):

The description reads:

> Not my title!!! My friend Jeff Greenberg came up with it. This is a weird episode… basically just me ranting and frankly if you don’t actually WORK AT APPLE… you can skip it. But please like and subscribe it, and if you know anyone that works at The Orchard, let them know about this.
>
> And yea… leave me alone… I’ll try to clean the teleprompter glass. You'll find as you watch these episodes, I'm not "A YouTuber"... I'm just a guy with some stuff to say and I've decided to put it on YouTube in hopes that you'll see it.
>
> I'm not pouring over analytics, I'm not testing thumbnails and I'm not "using the Gen Z Shake" to increase urgency and build a following. Frankly... if anyone watches this at all... I'll be kind of shocked.
>
> And also… thx to the few close friends in the industry who I shared this with before I shared it with you. You all had great insight and input and suggestions but I think ultimately, I just had to say this stuff.
>
> Welcome to The Grill.

You can find all the past podcast episodes on the [Final Cut Grill website](https://grill.fcp.cafe).

In the next episode you'll hear from the amazing [Alex "4D" Gollner](https://alex4d.com).

Exciting times!

In other news... **Claude & Adobe** are collaborating.

> Adobe for creativity brings capabilities across the creative cloud into a unified, creative connector. Access 50+ tools across Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Firefly, Premiere, Express, InDesign, and Adobe Stock — all through natural language, without switching apps. Describe what you want to achieve, from editing photos and vectors to designing assets and formatting video. Sign in with your Adobe account for higher usage limits, more tools, and cross-session continuity.

It includes a bunch of skills:

You can read more on [Adobe's Developer Site](https://developer.adobe.com/adobe-for-creativity/).

I also came across a cool new iPhone & iPad app on [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Filmmakers/comments/1sszshh/i_was_tired_of_fixing_phone_screens_in_post_so_i/) called **prefx**.

The developer writes:

> Last year I was shooting a commercial and the client wanted a social media feed last minute. No time to prep, no clean solution on set (until now). We put trackers on the phone and replaced it in post. It worked, but it cost real time and money. I kept thinking: I can't be the only one dealing with this.
>
> So I got together with some developer friends and built the tool I wished existed. After a year of trial and error, Prefx is out today on the App Store. Turns your iPhone or iPad into a production-ready digital prop.
>
> Clearance-ready UI assets: social feed, news layout, messaging, and a custom stitch (the one that started all of this).
> Scrollable, interactive interfaces. Actors scroll through feeds in real time. Sounds minor but the eyeline difference is real.
> Kelvin + RGB lighting controls. Every screen is a practical light source. Built this originally for green screen spill but it became its own thing, a lot of creative flexibility there.
> Green screen mode as a fallback, including black with trackers for comping in post.
> Pricing: $9.99/month or $99 lifetime. Professional utility, not a consumer app. One hour of VFX work costs more than the lifetime option. Free trial included so you can test it on set first.
>
> Live now. If you try it and plan on sticking with it, reach out directly. Always happy to connect with people solving the same problems.
>
> Genuine question: what's the weirdest UI you've ever had to fake on a shoot? Dating apps, obscure OS, fictional in-world interfaces? Building the next update around real use cases.

**First Rush v1.0.4** is out now.

It contains the following changes:

- **Preview cadence fix** — 23.976 / 29.97 / 59.94 fractional NTSC sources had a subtle hitch from the integer-Hz rounding mismatch. Preview loop now runs at display cadence and renders only on new buffers, so 24000/1001 sources stay smooth.
- **SDI status chips** — each source tile shows TC / REC / ANC / Audio / OCR state at a glance. If auto-fill isn't working you can see why immediately (signal missing? ANC missing? OCR didn't fire?) instead of guessing.
- **SDI Diagnostic Export** — Help menu has Copy / Export / Email. Captures version, signal format, TC, REC flag, audio channel info, last 60 frames of ANC packets (DID/SDID/payload prefix), OCR attempt/success counts, metadata sources. Pure on-set debugging tool — DM the output if you hit a weird issue.
- **Slate "Reset to Default"** — restores the default name format for the current slate mode without touching customizations in other modes.
- **Mock playback audio fix** — the "VU moves but no sound" issue with file playback is gone.
- **Mock OCR auto-trigger** — file playback now auto-fills metadata without needing the Camera Reel toggle.
- **Token palette real-time** — clicking palette tokens / presets now reflects immediately in the chip bar and preview.
- **DeckLink `com_ptr` `null` safety** — caught by xcodebuild analyze.
- Auto-recording core (RP188 trigger, debounce, start/stop state machine) was deliberately untouched. Working on-set, not touching it.
- Also: subscription checkout is now available alongside the existing 7-day in-app trial. No change for trial users — just an option if you want to keep using it past the trial.

You can download and learn more on the [First Rush website](https://editorhan.me/tools/).
